TGFABT – Psalm 10

“He says to himself…”

Psalm 10:6

We Should Never Say:
(“He [the wicked] says to himself”)

  • “Nothing will shake me; I’ll always be happy and never have trouble.” (V6)
    (John 16:33)
  • “God has forgotten; He covers His face and never sees.” (V11)
    (Genesis 16:13)

Truth

Psalm 10:4
“In his pride the wicked does not seek Him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. ”

Have I crowded God out of my thought life?

Word Study

Psalm 10:4
“In his pride the wicked does not seek him;  in all his thoughts there is no room for God.”

This verse would not leave me alone.  After digging around I found this information from Barnes.  Taking the verse apart word by word would take away from the meaning of the verse.  According to Barnes, the wicked had thoughts of God but they were wrong. (This supports Monday’s Message: Three Things We Should Never Say to Ourselves.)  The wrong thoughts are a result of not seeking God.  Girls, we have got to, got to, got to humble ourselves and seek God.

From Barnes’ Notes:

The literal translation is: “No God (are) all his thoughts.” The margin has undoubtedly expressed the meaning better than the translation in the text, since the spirit of the passage is not that the sinner had no thought of God, but that he thought wrong. The fact that he would not seek God, and that he had said that God had forgotten Psalm 10:11, shows that he had some thoughts of God.

I don’t want to have wrong thoughts about God.  I don’t want to have “some” thoughts about God.  I want God my thoughts about God to be accurate and them to consume me.

Thankful

I am thankful Scott is on the lake fishing today after two difficult months of travel.  The Lord blessed him with a simply beautiful Carolina day.

Faith Stretching/Strengthening

How is God stretching your faith?

He reminds me regularly to trust Him to bring the right buyer for our house.

  1. A message that I need to listen to and re-listen to! So much to absorb regarding trusting that God is ever present during good and bad times. When I see evil happening in my life or in the world and think how can God let this happen, where is he in this?? He is always there and ready to help me through it all if I just believe in Him and go to Him. I am so blessed to have Him in my life!

  2. One of my favorite verses is Hagar’s : “He is the God who sees me.” From Gen. 16:13. I came across that passage of Scripture years ago when I really needed to know that God saw me. Have loved it ever since. The other awesome part about that story is that Hagar was in the desert when the angel of the Lord found her. Especially comforting to know that when we go through desert times and feel all alone, God sees us.

  3. Today’s message and scripture is a lot to absorb. I will re-listen to it again. Last night I watched the Lifetime movie about the Cleveland abduction of Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus*. I was so amazed and comforted by Michelle’s strong faith in God. I can’t imagine myself in her shoes during those horrific times. Could I continue to trust the in Lord? Would my faith be stronger or weaken in time? I pray that when tested or when I am weary of the struggle of life I will remain ever faithful.
    Enjoy this beautiful day!

  4. Boy, did I need this chapter. I am trying to make a big decision in my life and I feel that God is not answering me (at least not in the way I think he should). When I listen to Wendy I’m reminded that God is with me and will answer me in due time or maybe he already has. Or is it the devil pushing me toward one thing because of one person that is making life unbearable right now.
I need to take Wendy’s advise and not look at verse 2 and just know that God sees me and knows what is best for me. God is good.

  5. Speaking the truth to me is how often I am wicked and not admitting the truth to myself. I need to be more aware of God’s presence at all times.

    1. I know what you mean Vicki. Hard to look at ourselves and admit our wickedness. Thanking God for His patience and mercy ! I love the truth about our God that we are reminded of at the end of the verse:
*The Lord is King forever and ever
*The Lord hears the desire of the humble
*The Lord will strengthen our hearts
      * The Lord listens carefully to us!
      * The Lord will do justice for the fatherless and the oppressed

  6. I agree with Wendy for word Wednesday that I truly need my thoughts to be CONSUMED with God thoughts and make room for him during trials and good times. God is ever present in my life!

  7. What really struck me about the word study is Wendy’s use of the word ACCURATE: I want my thoughts about God to be ACCURATE . I have been doing a lot of study lately on false teaching. And what I have learned is FRIGHTENING! My prayer for me and for you is TO GET INTO THE WORD TO FIND TRUTH so our thoughts of God are ACCURATE. We need to quit taking the WORD of men ( and women) as gospel and start asking God for a hunger and thirst for His Word and then dig in to seek TRUTH.

  8. God is stretching me to dig in His Word and seek His Truth there instead of seeking truth other places.
